November & December Students of the Month

November & December Students of the Month

November

Ms. Wolf nominated Mayzee in second grade as student of the month. She goes out of her way to help every single person in class, spends extra time everyday picking up trash and is always very organized. She is always trying her hardest on school work and has made a lot of progress in reading, writing, and math. She is an overall joy to have in class and always brightens my day and anyone she talks to.

Wade is a helpful classmate. He is kind and patient with his peers. He is able to explain things to his classmates in a way that helps them understand what the teacher was saying. He takes the time to understand his classmates and what they might need help with. Wade works well with anyone (new students or students who have been here since kindergarten). Wade makes a great addition to our school. Wade was nominated by the Middle School staff.

December

Varrick was nominated by Miss Melissa. Varrick is always doing the right thing. He is kind to his fellow classmates and teachers. Varrick tries his best and is always a pleasure to work with. Melissa Graves

Lincoln is always eager to learn, completes assignments on time, and is cooperative with peers. He is responsible and always brings his homework back to school on time (he tries to bring it back early most of the time.) He is helpful and offers to collaborate with his friends when they don’t understand tricky math concepts in class. He is always asking clarifying questions and is capable of having mature conversations. He cares about his grades more than any student I’ve ever had. He loves showing his friends how to play new games or sports at recess. He is very passionate about his education. Lincoln was nominated by Miss Teller.

Wellness Policy

Wellness Policy Goals Goal for Nutritional Promotion: The school district encourages students to participate in appropriate meal programs with the menus posted to the district website each week. The school district also encourages both staff and students to be actively engaged in the school garden and other local events when appropriate (county fair, local farms, etc.). Students will not be permitted to bring soda, energy drinks, or other drinks high in sugar and/or caffeine. Unopened confiscated beverages will be returned at the end of the school day, and replaced with a more appropriate beverage from the cafeteria.
Goal for Nutrition Education: Nutrition education will be taught based on the current standards to all students, kindergarten – 8th grade. Nutrition education is to be included in both health and physical education classes along with other subjects, such as math, science, language arts, and social sciences. Through teaching and through example, staff will cover a variety of nutrition topics with students throughout the year, including the importance of breakfast and water consumption, eating a variety of foods each day, choosing foods with little added sugar, and more.

Dan Messer

Facilities Coordinator

I have been at Maine School since 2022 as the Maintenance Coordinator. I am originally from Rushville, Indiana (home of Tony Stewart) but I have been living in Northern Arizona since 2018. I have mechanic experience and find enjoyment in fixing things. My pastimes include working on cars, hunting, and spending time with family.

Dr. Justin Roberson

Superintendent

Just a little bit about myself…I was born in Marengo, Iowa the son of a high school teacher (father) and nurse (mother). I received my schooling in a small farming town in Northeast Iowa. I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa in elementary education, my master’s degree and doctorate from Northern Arizona University in educational leadership.

I moved to Tuba City in 1996 and began my teaching career. I taught 14 years with the Tuba City Unified School District grades 2-6 and was a principal for 11 years on four different campuses.

In addition to spending time with students, staff and families, I am an avid sports fan. I enjoy spending time with my three children in the outdoors. Some of the activities we are fond of are swimming, camping and hiking; as well as road trips to new destinations.

Jan Moore

ESS Director -

I graduated from Arizona State University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Special Education. I then went on to complete master’s degrees in school counseling and educational leadership.  I lived in the valley since I was 8 years old and wanted a change from the city and the heat! I moved to Parks in 2020 to enjoy my retirement among the trees and the cool weather.

After enjoying retirement and getting settled into my new life, I found I missed teaching and the students. I returned to work at Maine in 2024 and have enjoyed getting to know the school, staff, and the community.

Kaylee Sandall

Board Member - Term ends 2028

KSandall@mcsd10.org

My name is Kaylee Sandall and it’s a privilege to serve on the school board and to be part of such a close-knit, supportive community. I’ve always had a deep love for Parks —growing up just down the road in Flagstaff, I spent plenty of time here and grew up knowing this special place well. My family and I lived in Parks about 16 years ago, and even then, we knew we wanted to end up here for good. Four years ago, we were fortunate enough to return and make Parks our home again. Our four kids now attend/have attended Maine Consolidated.

Being involved in our school and giving back to the community that has helped shape me and is shaping my own kids, is incredibly meaningful. I care deeply about the success of our students, the strength of our schools, and the future of Parks. It’s an honor to contribute to that future through my work on the board.
